Thomas Wahl

Thomas Wahl has worked in forensic serology, DNA analysis and comparative hair analyses for over 30 years as a testifying forensic scientist in government, private and academic sectors. Mr. Wahl has extensive experience in casework analysis and technical review of DNA data and case files. He is also a qualified DNA auditor and is certified by the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) in Molecular Biology. Mr. Wahl has been accepted as an expert witness in forensic serology and DNA analysis over 350 times in various state, federal, and international court jurisdictions for both the prosecution and defense.

Mr. Wahl has set up four DNA laboratories from the ground up, the most recent being the Forensic DNA Facility at North Dakota State University in Fargo. In 2006 he retired from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. where he was responsible for setting up the DNA Laboratory in 1995, training lab personnel, and performing the department’s first DNA casework analysis. Prior to 1995, Mr. Wahl was employed in the private sector as the Forensic Supervisor of Genelex Corporation, Seattle, Washington (1993-1995) and Senior Forensic Geneticist of Analytical Genetic Testing Center, Denver, Colorado (1988-1993). In both capacities he was responsible for setting up and implementing the new cutting-edge PCR technology for forensic casework applications. Mr. Wahl also served as an instructor for various forensic DNA training courses sponsored by both companies.

In addition to his tenure at Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Mr. Wahl has also worked in two other government forensic laboratories; the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement Tampa Regional Crime Laboratory (1986-1988) and the Wisconsin State Dept. of Justice Milwaukee Regional Crime Laboratory (1980-1985) where his forensic career began.
